A TENACIOUS four-year-old boy will run 1.5km next month to raise funds for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) which helped his sister.

Joey Wright, who will take on the Mini Great Birmingham Run on May 5, lives in Ombersley and his mum Megan and his family are original from Bromsgrove.

The youngster is passionate about running, playing and being outside. He enjoys school and spending time with his little sister, but life as a big brother began a bit differently for Joey.

He said: “In September, my baby sister Sophia was born with a heart issue called Pulmonary Stenosis.

“After surgery at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, she is getting better, but will need continuing care and further surgery through BCH.

“I am running the 2024 Mini Great Birmingham Run to raise money for BCH to help with all the great work that they do.”

Megan said the staff were so kind, helpful and cared for not Sophia but all of the family as well.

The surgery was successful and the doctors were able to fix Sophia’s heart so she could go home.

Joey set himself an original fundraising total of £200 but already, on his fund-raising page, he has had more than six times that pledged.
