A FREE open-air screening of a Hollywood blockbuster is set to bring Droitwich Spa Lido’s 90th anniversary celebrations to a ‘fitting’ close.
Droitwich Spa Lido will host a free outdoor screening of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl as part of celebrations marking its 90th anniversary.
The open-air showing will take place on Saturday, August 26 from 7.30pm to 9.45pm in the car park of the Worcester Road site. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs. Food and drink will be available from Little Al’s café.
Ahead of the screening, the pool will open for a public swim from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.
The event concludes a summer-long programme of activities celebrating the Lido’s opening in 1935 by film star Ralph Lynn. Other events have included a birthday party, musical performances, and a synchronised swimming display.
A commemorative memory book featuring photographs and stories from past and present visitors has also been released and is on sale.
Suzi Wood, chair of the Friends of Droitwich Spa Lido, said the screening was marks the end of a ‘fabulous summer’.
Councillor Dan Birch of Wychavon District Council said the Lido remained a key part of the town’s identity, adding that continued investment would help secure its future.
He said: “What better way to crown a brilliant summer at the Lido than to have a swim before venturing virtually onto the high seas for some breathtaking big screen action. A fabulous way to round off the Lido’s 90th anniversary.”
The Lido, known as the ‘Seaside of the Midlands’, is one of the UK’s last remaining inland open-air saltwater pools.
