More opportunities for Droitwich youngsters to take up tennis after agreement between town's club and Redrow Homes

DROITWICH Tennis Club will be serving up some ace training after a smashing sponsorship deal struck up with construction firm Redrow Homes.

Redrow has committed to a two year deal which will see it provide £2,500-a-year to the club, with the option of extending the deal by another year.

The agreement will allow the club to plan a development strategy in order to promote tennis to young people in the area for years to come.

Droitwich Tennis Club currently has 370 members ranging in age from four to 85. In 2015 the club received an award for the best junior tennis programme from Hereford & Worcester Lawn Tennis Association and the club hopes the much-needed sponsorship will allow it to work with more children on a regular basis.

Club Chairman Neil Bates said up to 20 per cent of the children the club coached took up tennis regularly.

He said the club had been working with six local schools on an ad hoc basis to teach the youngsters how to play tennis and encourage them to be more active.

“The support from Redrow will enable us to work with more children on a more structured basis.”

Sessions will range from 45 minutes for younger children to 90 minutes for teenagers.

Pauline Turnbull, sales director for Redrow, said the firm was keen to play an active role in the communities it operated in.

“Who knows, the children who learn to play tennis with Droitwich Tennis Club could be the Wimbledon or Olympic champions of the future.”
