"Our world is beautiful but complicated- at Christmas we are reminded of love and peace"

A Christmas message from Rev Laura Handy.

“This month we have had lots of Christingle events exploring what it means for Jesus to be the light of the world. The Christingles are made using an orange, sticks, sweets, ribbon and a candle.

“The orange represents our world and at this time of year people across the world, in many languages and with lots of different traditions will retell the Christmas story.

“I enjoy seeing the traditions of others and remember fondly the times I’ve joined with Christians from other nations and in other languages singing carols or watching nativity plays.

“On one such occasion with people from around the world the Lord’s Prayer was prayed in more than 70 languages at the same time and was a really memorable moment.

“The candle in the top of a Christingle signifies Jesus and also challenges and encourages us to shine like lights in the world.

“This is often through simple acts of kindness and compassion.

“Our world is a beautiful, but complicated place and at Christmas we are reminded of the value of love and peace and the part that we can play in building a brighter world.

“I pray that this Christmas, whatever traditions you enjoy, that you will know the light, hope and peace of Jesus and be able to shine some light wherever you are.”
