IN the first year since ‘libraries unlocked’ was introduced, 52 per cent of active members at Droitwich library had signed up to the scheme.

The scheme was launched last June and has seen library opening hours increase by 85 per cent during that time.

There have been 13,599 library visits, 17,314 issues, and 3,608 computer sessions over the past 12 months.

Those who have upgraded to the free libraries unlocked membership can now visit the library between 8am and 8pm from Monday to Saturday, including previously closed days.

Customers are able to have more time to borrow books as well as use study space, library computers and online reference services, as well as meet friends and attend events and activities.

Feedback has revealed the service is particularly popular with working people and parents, people who prefer to use the library at quieter times and people looking to spend longer in the building.

Worcestershire county council’s cabinet member for communities, Coun Marcus Hart said: “Libraries are at the heart of our communities across Worcestershire, and I am thrilled to witness the incredible response to Libraries Unlocked in Droitwich.

“This scheme has truly unlocked the potential of our libraries to serve as vibrant hubs for learning, connection, and community development.”
