PLANNED complete overnight closures of the M5 motorway between Droitwich and Bromsgrove have now been cancelled until the issue which caused today’s traffic chaos has been fully investigated.
The announcement has been made by Highways England which was forced to apologise earlier after motorists were forced to sit in miles of traffic for hours on end.
The M5 is now fully open in both directions following the incident, which occurred during gantry removal work on the northbound carriageway.
Colin Lowther, Highways England operations manager, said:
“We’re very sorry for the disruption drivers have experienced today.
“We have been working hard all day to reopen this section of the M5.
“Safety comes first, and we had to carry out the complex operation of removing the gantry from the carriageway before we could reopen it.”
