Owner of judo club in Droitwich 'blown away' by Wychavon Community Award

THE OWNER of a judo club in Droitwich was left ‘blown away’ after scooping top prize at the Wychavon District Council’s Community Recognition Awards.

Rich Morrish, who runs Kazoku-Kan at Physique Fitness on the Berry Hill Industrial Estate, won the Enabling Healthy Lives award last Thursday night (March 16) for helping others feel comfortable when attending his club.

The 40-year-old, who has had 20 years of experience in judo, told the Standard he was left stuck for words after both being nominated and winning the accolade.

“When I had the phone call out of the blue saying I had been nominated it was a ‘wow’ moment as I have never been shortlisted for anything in my life.

“And to actually win the award was just mind blowing.”

Kazoku-Kan currently has 25 members but is always on the look-out for new faces to join the ever-growing club.

Members train every Friday night from 6.30pm to 8pm with an extra bonus half hour free of charge.

Sessions cost £5 (£4 family ticket) but the first one is always free.
