Parking fears raised over apartments plan for former Droitwich RBL club

RESIDENTS have been urged to have their say on plans for 27 new apartments on the site of the former Droitwich Royal British Legion Club which have been submitted to Wychavon District Council.

The proposal includes 18 one-bedroom flats, nine two-bedroom flats and a total of 26 parking spaces.

The site on Salwarpe Road would also have 44 bike spaces for cyclists and a new access point.

A consultation is under way as part of the application, and anyone wanting to have their say on the plans is urged to do so before the October 10 deadline.

Some residents have already voiced opposition to the proposed plans, citing issues including limited car parking spaces in the area.

Lynne West, a resident who lives opposite the proposed planning application, said: “Our estate already experiences difficulties with commuters parking here instead of using the railway station car parks.

“This would simply make the situation worse.”

Each apartment has an allocated parking space, but some are concerned over households having more than one car taking up space where they currently park.

Christine Evans said: “Given the highly accessible nature of the site within close proximity of Droitwich Spa railway station, the parking standards for this scheme should be waived and instead a small proportion or no parking (‘car free’) should be proposed as part of this scheme.”

She proposed spaces to be allocated per person, rather than per car, which would then prevent vehicles from parking in surrounding estates.

The building closed its doors in July 2016 and has remained unoccupied ever since.

The Standard contacted Zebra Architects, which has put forward the plans, but it declined to comment at this stage.
