A CALL for pet food donations has been made to help Droitwich pet owners struggling to feed their animals due to rising everyday living costs.
The Charity Blue Cross has teamed up with local food banks to provide vital help to pet owners with ‘nowhere else to turn’ by collecting donations of animal food.
Nicky Carr, Manager at Blue Cross Droitwich charity shop, said: “Here at Blue Cross, we have heard stories of owners going without food themselves to cover the cost of feeding or caring for their pets.
“No pet should have to go hungry, and no one should have to choose between feeding themselves or feeding their pets.”
She added that Blue Cross are aware that, for some people, their pets are their only companions and link to the outside world.
The charity shop on St Andrew’s Street in Droitwich is seeking donations of dog, cat and kitten food, as well as food for small animals like rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters which be distributed to needy families through the Moving Forward Community Fridge.
Nikki Beeston, Project Coordinator at Moving Forward Community Fridge, said they welcome any donations and look forward to their new partnership with Blue Cross Droitwich.
“Moving Forward Community Fridge supports approximately 100 people weekly.
“Previously, we have received small donations of pet food from local supermarkets, and we often have families asking if we have pet food available.
“Over the past six months, we have seen an increase in families using the community fridge, and we expect this to continue to rise due to the current cost of living crisis.”
Donations of pet food can be dropped off at the Blue Cross charity shop.
