Pictures of family days out at Droitwich Lido being sought for calendar to tell the venue's story

A UNIQUE project has been launched which is aimed at creating a 2018 calendar to tell the story of Droitwich Spa Lido through family photographs.

Now the people behind the piece want residents from across Worcestershire to dig out their snapshots which depict them and their loved ones visiting the brine-fed outdoor swimming pool.

All photographs taken at the Lido from any time are welcome and all the pictures will be exhibited at The Meat Box before the favoured ones are selected to be put forward for the calendar which is due to go on sale later this year.

It is hoped the project will not only capture the changing fashions people have enjoyed since the Lido opened in 1935 as well as tell the story of arguably the town’s most popular and famous tourist attraction.

Those wanting to submit photographs can email them to Droitwich Leisure Centre or to [email protected]

Everyone submitting pictures are automatically agreeing for them to be published in the 2018 calendar and, unfortunately, it will not be possible to return them.

Suzi Wood, the chairperson of the Friends of Droitwich Spa Lido (FODSL), which is behind the project, said: “We are hoping that everyone will search through their family albums and send us some lovely photographs to chose from – a little story attached to the photo would also bring it to life”

The Friends are hoping that apart from creating something that will promote our famous landmark, it will be an interesting piece of history for the town.

The FODSL have released this picture of John Gwilliam, a lifeguard on duty at the Lido on July 30, 1966 – the day England won the World Cup – to get the ball rolling.
