A CAMPAIGN group hoping to return the famous brine baths to Droitwich has received a cash boost of £5k to help put the ‘Spa’ back in the town.

Save Our Brine Baths (SOBBs) was awarded the grant from Worcestershire County Council which supports local schemes to promote the economic, social or environmental well-being of local wards.

A planning proposal has been lodged at Wychavon District Council to build the brine baths adjacent to the town’s lido pool.

Chairman Bill Moy, said: “It is clear there is widespread acceptance in principle that a brine baths facility would contribute to the well-being of townspeople, while aiding the local economy through the increased numbers of visitors to the town.

“We find it so encouraging that at both town and county level, the councils are keen for us to push on with our project.

“We will be using the grant to work with architects to draw up detailed plans that prove a development in harmony with the existing lido pool and buildings can enhance and restore Droitwich’s heritage.”

All are welcome to the next meeting of SOBBs which will be held at 7.30pm on March 27 at Parks Café in Droitwich town centre.
