A DROITWICH estate agent who spearheaded a campaign to rebuild the Lido Park play area after a devastating fire has been shortlisted for a prestigious fund-raising award.
Matt Nicol, of Matt Nicol & Co, sprang into action following the incident on July 11 last year, rallying the community and seeing more than £18,000 collected in just 28 days.
Generous companies, parents and grandparents donated cash and charity events were organised, such as a car wash by Droitwich Fire Service.
Such was the response from residents, local businesses and community organisations, the play area was re-opened less than a month later – on August 8 last year.
Matt’s sterling efforts led to him being put forward for the 2015 Justgiving Awards and in the competition, which has seen 20,000 nominations put forward across all the categories, he has now been shortlisted to the final three in the ‘Community Crowdfunder of the Year’ section.
Matt told The Standard: “I was shocked and suprised to both be nominated and shortlisted – especially as the awards have more than 20,000 nominations.
“When we launched the campaign, we did not know what the response would be like and when it got so big, it was such a proud moment for me.
“But it wasn’t just me putting the money in, there was a lot of businesses involved.
“To start the process was a bit of an easy job but it yielded a great response.”
Now it is hoped Standard readers will go online and vote for Matt before Monday (August 31) to help him win the title.
