Poignant presentation at Droitwich Town Meeting in memory of Frank Holliday

THERE was a poignant presentation at the annual Droitwich Town Meeting on Monday.

The family of Frank Holliday accepted a trophy which will be used by Droitwich Spa Boys and Girls Football Club, an organisation Frank volunteered at for almost 40 years before his death in June.

Frank, who was nominated for the 2013 West Midlands Sports Unsung Hero and won the county’s equivalent award, died at the age of 73 in June.

He retired from the club two years before that after being diagnosed with cancer but returned recently to see his grandson Finley play for the team.

As well as the memorial trophy, two engraved plaques will also be put up at the King Georges Playing Field Pavilion and the Cricket Pavilion at St Peters.

Droitwich Mayor Coun Shaun Best said: “The family were delighted that he would be remembered both through the trophy and the plaques.

“They are both really fitting memorials to Frank and everything he did for the town.”

It has not yet been confirmed what the trophy will be awarded for.
