Police carry out two drugs raids with chainsaws in Droitwich

POLICE wielding chainsaws ripped down the doors of two Droitwich homes during a drugs swoop today (Tuesday).

Two houses in Swan Drive were targeted as part of an intelligence-led investigation and warrants were obtained relating to the suspected sale of class A drugs, namely herion and crack cocaine.

Neither of the suspects were home at the time and no drugs were found or arrests made.

West Mercia Task Force burst out of their van and ran up to the houses before simultaneously chainsawing their way through the front doors and filing into the property.

No one was in either of the homes but the owner of one arrived just after police entered the homes about 2.20pm.

In total 25 officers took part in the raids, which included local police, Pro-active CID and Integrated Offender Management officers – who deal with the top 50 most prolific offenders in the area.

Charlie the sniffer dog and his handler Sandie Hale were also involved and helped out with the warrant by searching the homes and nearby area.

The co-ordinator of the Neighbourhood Watch said they had been working with the police on intelligence coming from residents.

He added it was unusual to see two raids carried out at the same time on the estate.

He said: “I co-ordinate information when residents contact me and I pass it onto the police.

“The police can only act when they have sufficient intelligence.”

“When asked what he would like to say to suspected drug dealers and users, he said: “It is best to avoid us – it is not accepted – we are the eyes and ears of the police.

“We just want a safe place to live.”

Sgt Dave Qubain said: “Unfortunately it was a negative result on this occasion but we will continue to crack down on drug dealers and users.

“We have been pro-actively addressing the public’s concerns and will continue to do so in the future.”

Charlie the police dog was called into action again. s
