Police issue warning about 'security system' scam after several incidents in South Worcestershire in the last 24 hours

A WARNING has been issued by police after a large number of attempted scams in South Worcestershire over the past 24 hours.

The caller phones up posing as a representative from a security company and offers to install a security system they falsely claim is linked directly to the emergency services for a £1 charge.

They say you will then be charged for continued monitoring and the fraudsters then visit your house to ‘install’ the security systems.

Police are still in their early stages of investigating the ruse but are advising residents to be cautious if they receive similar calls.

Anyone who receives one of the calls should hang up and call 101 where you will hear an automated message thanking you for calling 101 before being given the option of speaking to staff.

Officers also want people to pass the warning onto friends, family and neighbours, especially the vulnerable or elderly.
