Police issue warning after numerous scam calls across Droitwich

RESIDENTS have been warned to be on their guard after a series of fraud calls made to people living in Droitwich.

On Wednesday at midday, a Bowden Green resident received a call from a man with a foreign accent saying he was calling from ‘the Met’ police, claiming to be dealing with two suspects he had under arrest for credit card fraud. He said they had spent £1,400 and asked the resident to confirm his home address. He refused and told the man to ‘send local police’ but he said no and hung up.

Another incident involved two calls – at 1pm on May 9 and at 4.50pm on Tuesday (May 24) – to a person in Oddingley. They were from an English woman and from a man with an Indian accent who gave his name as ‘Alex Smith’. He said he was calling about the homeowner winning a prize.

A call made to a person in Hampton Lovett, saw a man claiming to be DC Moore from ‘The Met Police’ who had arrested two suspects for credit card fraud. He said he wanted to know the resident’s address.

And, in another one in Droitwich Road, Fernhill Heath, a man was told he had been selected for a ‘pensions review’ and a courier would be sent to collect his documents.

A further scam call was made to a resident in Bagheott Road, Droitwich.

The police are warning people not to give out any personal details, including PINs, to cold-callers or to let couriers pick up any cards, documents or cash.

They also say people should never transfer money to accounts of people they do not know, withdraw money for them or leave money unattended with them.

Anyone with any information or wanting to report similar incidents should call police on 101.
