Possibility of putting Pte Talbot's name on Droitwich War Memorial to be looked into by town council, reveals Mayor

DROITWICH Mayor Coun Roy Murphy has confirmed the town council would be looking into the possibility of Pte Edgar Talbot’s name being added to the town’s war memorial.

Despite the fallen soldier’s memorial being in the St Mary’s Cemetery and his family’s links to the town, he is not commemorated on any Worcestershire war memorial and it is unclear why that is.

Pte Talbot, a member of the 26th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, was killed on September 18, 1916 and the centenary of his death was marked with a special service last Sunday held by historian Peter Kennedy and his wife when a poppy-laden cross was laid at the memorial.

Peter welcomed the announcement at the town council meeting on Monday relating to Pte Talbot’s name being considered for inclusion on Droitwich’s war memorial.

He said: “It’s fantastic news – it would be nice if it could be done in time for Remembrance Sunday in a few weeks time but I’m not sure that’s possible.”
