Premises licence to sell alcohol at Droitwich's Ombersley Court granted

PLANS to turn the historic Ombersley Court into a private hire events venue will go ahead after the local council has granted a late night alcohol and live music licence.

The premises licence application, submitted by Gemini Hospitality Group (GHG), was granted by Wychavon District Council’s licencing subcommittee at a meeting on Wednesday April, 12.

Local residents raised concerns about the possibility of disruption because of events, fearing that noise created by outdoor parties could damage the peace of the local village.

The licencing subcommittee ruled that the number of events would be restricted to 30 a year with the sale of alcohol permitted no later than 2am for visiting guests.

Events will also be restricted to the main Manor House.

Guests staying over at the venue will be able to continue drinking, in the same way hotels provide alcohol to residential guests.

The council also ruled out the possibility of outdoor events under the premises licence, restricting the playing of live and recorded music to indoors only.

GHG’s managing director, Mark Bevan has confirmed that the group can still apply for temporary event notices, which if granted may not be bound by the same restrictions as the recently granted premises licence.

This would allow the possibility of outdoor events with the involvement of alcohol and live and recorded music, on a case by case basis.

Mark Bevan, told the Standard that GHP plan to host between 12 and 20 private events a year including family stays, corporate events and charity balls. Adding that events would be ‘exclusive, invitation only’ and ‘ticketed’.

Mark said: “I want to thank the subcommittee for their considered and measured approach to the application, allowing us to work together to reach an outcome.

“Following residents concerns, we’ve restricted the days in which we can hold events and allow the consumption of alcohol in a calendar year.

“The potential for future events held under temporary event notices (TEN) will allow residents to raise further concerns and be part of the discourse for each proposed TEN event.”
