THERE was a royal wedding celebration at St Peter’s C of E Academy in Droitwich on Friday.

The school held a mock wedding ceremony at St Peter de Witton Church.

All the children had parts to play during the big day, including the bride and groom, bridesmaids, pageboys, ushers, a best man and parents of the bride and groom.

All children were invited to wear their finest outfits to the wedding of the year four bride and groom – Pippa Lang and Lucas Brett.

The wedding party and all the guests paraded from the school to the church to the cheers of onlookers and the mock service, which was led by Rev Laura Handy.

Following the service, it was back to school for a wedding breakfast of cupcakes and squash followed by dancing.

In preparation for the event the children had made invitations, bunting and cards as well as designing wedding cakes and dresses.

The rest of the day was taken up with wedding related activities and exploring what a Christian wedding ceremony involves and comparing this to wedding ceremonies in other cultures and religions.

Mrs Greenwood, the early years foundation stage teacher and wedding co-ordinator, said “A royal wedding is such a special time and we wanted to make sure it was a memorable event for all at St Peter’s.

“This happy and colourful celebration marked the occasion perfectly and certainly is a lovely memory for us all. ”
