A CAMPAIGN has been launched to raise £4,500 to save three former BT phone boxes in Droitwich so defibrillators can be housed in them.
The move is the latest in the drive to ensure no one in the town is ever too far away from an AED defibrillator in case someone suffers a cardiac arrest.
We reported last year about the consultation on the kiosks in Worcester Road, Old Coach Road and Hanbury Street which asked if any community groups wanted to come forward to adopt them.
Following the responses Droitwich Town Council decided they were no longer needed and recommended they be removed.
But now Peter Richards, from Droitwich AED, is hoping to raise the cash – £1,500 for each phone box – as soon as possible so the life-saving devices can be installed in the kiosks.
“We need to raise this money quickly before BT remove the kiosks.
“Otherwise we will be looking at a lost opportunity in the town that has the potential to save lives.”
He has urged any residents or groups to donate what they can or organise fund-raising events in a bid to collect the cash.
For every £25 donated, the group or person will be given a place on an emergency first aid course which, as well as teaching basic first aid skills, will also teach participants how to use the defibrillators.
