A RALLYING call has been made to Droitwich residents to go along and check out the plans for the controversial Yew Tree Hill development.
A special public viewing is being held between 6.30pm and 9pm on Wednesday (October 7) at the Council Chamber in St Richard’s House, Victoria Square (opposite the library).
The original proposals for the site by Barberry Droitwich Ltd, Persimmon Homes Ltd and Prowting Projects Ltd was rejected by Wychavon District Council but that decision was overturned by the Planning Inspectorate on appeal.
They were for up to 765 homes, a 200-bed care home, a mixed use local centre as well as some road changes.
Coun Richard Morris, ward member for Droitwich South East, said: “Whilst we lost the appeal to stop the Yew Tree Hill development, it is now important that we concentrate our efforts on making sure that the proposals are of the highest quality.
“That’s why we want as many people as possible to come along to view the plans and then make their comments ahead of our planning committee meeting.”
As well as Droitwich South East, the Yew Tree Hill development stretches over the Lovett and North Claines ward, covered by councillors Tony Miller and Lynne Duffy.
Coun Miller said: “We too would urge people from our ward to come and view the plans and make their views known ahead of the application going to our planning committee.”
The first application will focus on the scale, appearance, general layout and landscaping of the Persimmon Homes part of the development which is now ready to go to Wychavon District Council’s planning committee.
It is likely the Persimmon Homes application (ref W/15/01187/RM) will go to Wychavon’s Planning Committee on November 12.
Earlier today (Thursday), as The Standard went to press, it was confirmed there would be two representatives from Persimmon Homes at the meeting with display boards illustrating the plans.
They will be on hand to speak about the development and answer any questions and there will be comment forms available for residents to fill in so they can have their say.
Anyone can comment at www.wychavon.gov.uk by searching for the planning application using the link from the home page and the number 15/01187.
People can also send their comments in by post, quoting reference number 15/01187, to: Wychavon District Council, Planning Department, Civic Centre, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Pershore, Worcestershire, WR10 1PT. Comments must be received before November 12.
It is likely that the Redrow Homes planning application for Yew Tree Hill will follow later in the year, and further details will be provided when they are known.
