Rare training session for Droitwich Young Firefighters

Droitwich Editorial 26th Feb, 2015 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

YOUNG Droitwich firefighters got the opportunity to make the most of a rare training session at the Moreton-in-Marsh Fire Service College.

In total, 16 members of the town’s Young Firegfighters Association (YFA), all between 13 and 17-years-old, went along with five instructors to practise their skills last Saturday (February 21).

The teens got to learn search and rescue techniques by making their way through and over obstacles in a purpose-built building in the dark.

As well as this, the young firefighters also did a basement rescue exercise and learnt how to deal with a car fire.

Watch Commander Ade Taylor and the Droitwich YFA branch co-ordinator said: “They absolutely loved it.

“They were really proud of the fact a lot of the people in the fire service do not get the opportunity to go there.”
