RESIDENTS in Droitwich are appealing to Wychavon planners to throw out an application for a two-storey detached house in Spa Road.
They say the area is already one of the most densely populated one in the district and the extra property will make it much worse.
A number of issues were highlighted in more than 15 objections.
They include the fact the home would be on the busy junction with Blackfriars Avenue which was frequently used as a rat run meaning there was already lots of traffic.
They say the increased on-street parking and height of the building would make it even more dangerous because of a further lack of visibility for drivers already hampered by a large fence.
Objectors added the area was used by many children, families and older people because there was a dentist and nursing home in the area and because the route was used to get to a nursery and nearby schools.
One person said they had already seen a crash at the junction and several near misses and one resident who contacted the Standard said there were also concerns about emergency service vehicles, such as fire engines and ambulances, being able to get through when needed.
He added: “Worcestershire Highways seemed to object but then met with the developers and said they had allayed their fears.”
There is also a fear over a loss of light to nearby properties because of the size of the building.
Droitwich Town Council also voiced opposition to the proposal, including that the design property was not in-keeping with the area.
We contacted the applicant’s agent about the claims and they declined to comment at this time.
The application – which has been recommended by officers for approval – will be heard by Wychavon District Council Planning Committee on Thursday, March 31.
