DROITWICH residents are advised to be vigilant in the wake of a speeding-ticket email scam.
The email, originating in Greater Manchester, informs the recipient they have been caught speeding and attempts to infect the victim’s computer with viral Malware.
Once infected, cyber criminals may be able to access personal and financial information which could be used to defraud the user out of money.
Police have received reports of the scam email circulating the country and are urging people to not open the email or pass on any financial payments in response to it.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “Police would never send out correspondence via email requesting payment of fines or personal and financial information -any correspondence on speeding offences would be sent via post.
“Any emails of this nature should be deleted and computer users are urged to ensure they have the most up-to-date security software.”
