Residents urged to have their say on Droitwich town centre revamp

Droitwich Editorial 16th Sep, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

RESIDENTS are being urged to give their views on Droitwich town centre ahead of a revamp planned for the area.

As well as improvements to the High Street, such as a complete resurfacing, better street lighting and replacement street furniture, Worcestershire County Council is looking to develop improve the transport infrastructure.

The junction at either end of the High Street could also be redesigned to reduce vehicle speeds, improve the number of places where pedestrians can cross and help to protect historic buildings.

St Andrews Road could also be redeveloped to include a cycle path in and through the town centre and make access to the town centre car parks easier.

Coun John Smith, the council’s cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said: “The redevelopment of Droitwich town centre and surrounding areas such as the North Street Area and St Andrews Road will see the area regenerated in terms of footfall and redesign.

“We have some very exciting proposals that will see these areas redesigned but designed to allow greater access for pedestrians and cyclists – whilst also ensuring that congestion is kept to a minimum for motorists.”

Residents can have their say on the plans and what is prioritised.

Due to funding restraints, not everything can be built at once and the consultation will enable people to say what they would like to see improved first ahead of the final design.

Residents can visit www.worcestershire.gov.uk/droitwichspa to find out more about the intended works and have their say.

The deadline for entries is October 30.
