Retired Droitwich nurse creates a charitable Diwali exhibition

DROITWICH artist and retired nurse Hansa Norman has set up an exhibition at the Droitwich Library to celebrate Diwali, with all funds raised going towards the charity Guide Dogs.

Hansa aims to educate people about the Hindu festival while also giving those who see the exhibition the option to donate money towards Guide Dogs, a charity close to her heart.

Hansa Norman said: “It is so important to bring different cultures together, especially now with the current climate.

“To understand different cultures and what they are going through, respecting theirs and them respecting yours is how we can live in harmony.”

The retired nurse used to work in an eye ward and experienced first-hand the process of losing sight, and the difficulties blind people go through, which was the main reason Guide Dogs was chosen.

In total, the exhibition took three weeks to make and features a detailed Rangoli – a form of Indian art made out of coloured sand, rice, dry flour or flower petals.

However, this is not Hansa’s first charitable cause this year, and she raised £350 at an art exhibition for the Ukrainian Children’s Appeal over Easter.
