REVEALED - The routes for this year's Droitwich Santa Sleigh which start tonight

Droitwich Editorial 8th Dec, 2020   0

THE DROITWICH Santa Sleigh will be out and about in the coming days and weeks with the first one getting under way this evening.

Because of the pandemic the tour, which has operated throughout the town every year for more than half a century, will be done very differently.

In order to comply with regulations the sleigh, operated jointly by the Droitwich Lions and the Droitwich Rotary Club, will not be able to stop but the man in the big red suit will be waving to people as he journeys through the neighbourhoods.

Tonight (Tuesday, December 8), the sleigh will visit Charles Henry Road and join Winslow Avenue part way along, rather than going along the lower part of Winslow Avenue.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, December 9), Santa will be heading to Primsland Way, Worcester Road, Tagwell Road and Primsland Way.

The third outing on Thursday (December 10), will see Father Christmas go to the Copcut Rise Estate, Celevestune Way, Stalls Farm Road, Ombersley Road, Saltway, Blackfriars Avenue and Old Coach Road.

As well as travelling the Spa’s roads, Santa and his sleigh will also be in Droitwich town centre on December 11 and 12.

After that the man in the big red suit will next be back on the road next Tuesday (December 15) where he will visit Addyes Green, Showell Road, Dugard Way, Clifford Road, York Avenue, King George Avenue, a short run along Tagwell Road to Newlands Road and then back to Primsland Way and Addyes Green.

The day after – on Wednesday, December 16, Father Christmas will be journeying through Ombersley Way, Briar Mill, Westwood Road, Kidderminster Road and Salwarpe Way.

On Thursday, December 17, the sleigh will head from Newlands Lane to Wildlife Way then to Squirrel Bank, Hare Close, Weasel Avenue, Fox Lane, Rabbit Croft and back to Newlands Lane. After that it will go to Pulley Lane, Woodland Way, Raven Gardens, Robin Meadow, Goldcrest Way and Jenny Wren Row before heading back to Woodland Way where Father Christmas will enter the Orchards estate, going up and then down Goldcrest Way and finish in Pulley Lane

The sleigh will be back in Droitwich town centre on December 18 and 19 near Waitrose.

As well as bringing joy to people of all ages, the Droitwich Spa Santa Sleigh has also collected cash for good causes – because of the Tier 2 restrictions, it will be unable to do that this year.

Instead people can donate via the Droitwich Spa Santa Sleigh fund-raising page .

There will also be a contactless machine available for people to donate on December 11, 12, 18 and 19 when the sleigh is in the town centre.

The main charities to benefit are Acorns Children’s Hospice and Spectrum Days in Droitwich.

Routes are subject to change and the latest routes are now available to view on the Droitwich Spa Christmas Sleigh Facebook group.

Alternatively, visit the Rotary Club of Droitwich Spa website or the Droitwich Lions Facebook page.
