Droitwich's Kerrie rowing to raise funds for rape help centre

A DROITWICH woman will row the equivalent of a half marathon non-stop at the town’s Roots Fitness to raise funds for the counselling service at the West Mercia Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (WMRSASC).

Kerrie Best, head of operations for Purple Leaf – the charity’s prevention, education and training arm – will undertake the 21,097m feat next Saturday, May 6.

Kerrie, who has worked at the support centre for 15 years, said: “I’m very aware the counselling service struggles to receive consistent and sustainable funding.

“I have completed several fund-raising events and I love a personal fitness challenge that requires resilience and endurance.

“I ran the London Marathon in 2018 but needed a new challenge with lower physical impact.”

Kerrie hopes to raise around £600 to fund 10 specialist counselling sessions and raise awareness of WMRSASC and its services.

She thanked Roots Gym for providing the equipment, support and coaching.

“Prior to this challenge I’d only rowed about 500m as part of my general fitness workout, and they have helped me push through to this next level.”
