THE Royal British Legion held a remembrance service for her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the War Memorial in Victoria Square, Droitwich, on Monday (September 19).

Volunteers aged between nine and 87 had gathered to pay respects and hold tribute to Her Majesty.

Alan Humphries, Droitwich branch Chairman for the Royal British Legion (RBL) said there was a ‘deep profound sense of sadness’ amongst the members of the RBL.

He added: “It is very poignant for me in the division, and I am sure for the members of staff in the branch as well because the Queen was the only monarch I have ever known.

“No one ever really thought about The Queen’s death as she was always there.

“So, this is poignant and a deep honour to do something like this”

Mayor George Duffy also attended the event and laid a reef for The Late Queen along with Mr Humphries on the War Memorial.

Two standard-bearers were also present at the event.

The event finished with the crowd singing the national anthem, God Save the King.
