VISITORS are expected to descend on Droitwich next weekend for the town’s 11th annual Salt Fest, which is set to be bigger and better than ever.

The celebration of the Spa’s history of salt-making, which takes place next Saturday and Sunday (September 10 and 11), will feature heritage displays, a Roman re-enactment, live entertainment, a real ale bar, markets, community stalls and an art exhibition.

The popular event opens with a parade through the town, led by the Droitwich Air Cadets Band, and there will also be a farm animal corner, circus skills, duck race, boat trips on the canal.

On the Sunday, there will be a fun dog show to raise funds for Danemere Animal Rescue and Bishops Wood Swan Rescue.

Run by local vets MacArthur, Barstow and Gibbs, the show features nine classes for dogs of all shapes and sizes, as well as have-a-go agility sessions.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the town’s salt history in ‘Salt Alley’ which hosts displays and activities such as salt making demonstrations, salt carving and even model cars powered by salt.

Visitors will also have the chance to listen to story telling and learn about the Romans, how they lived, what they wore and what they ate.

Event organiser Liz Etheridge said: “We’re so excited with the massive programme of salt-related activity on offer for Spa residents and visitors.

“Come down – there’s something for everyone.”

The event includes a packed programme of live music at the Vines Park marquee while shoppers will be treated with a farmers’ and craft market in St Andrews Street and the High Street.

Other attractions include the real ale bar, farm animal corner, circus skills, a duck race and boat trips on the canal.
