SaltFest returns to Droitwich next weekend

Droitwich Editorial 27th Aug, 2023   0

DROITWICH’S SaltFest is next weekend and – spread over four days with new concepts and themes – it is set to be bigger and better than ever.

At 7pm on Thursday, August 31, there will be the first ever Midlands Comedy Club Night in Vines Park with a real ale and traditional bars and street food.

A variety of activities will take place over the weekend from 7pm on Friday, September 1, in the park where there is a new extended marquee stage area to allow more audience space.

Events will include The Rivers and Canal Trust Water Safety education, salt-making history activities, Roman village and other activities to ensure there is something for everyone.

The Outdoor Shopping Village boasts a variety of stalls and the new Food Hall, presented by Droitwich Diners Club, will hold a contest to find the platinum award winner for best Diner Club’s Vendor.

New this year from 10am on Sunday, September 3, is the Saltfest Town Sports Academy formed with Physique Fitness staging this year’s 5km canal fun run with Droitwich AC to raise funds to sponsor local sports clubs and individuals.

There is a £5 entry fee to sign up to the Fitness Village (from 9am).

Over the weekend the Fitness Village and Wellness Centre will host all types of activities over two days and the wrestling match at 4pm on Saturday is sure to be a family highlight.

Droitwich Bowling Club, which celebrates its centenary this year, is holding a special open day at the club at 1pm on Saturday.

And there will be a parachute jump over King George Playing Fields at 2.30pm next Sunday, expertly carried out from the helicopter by The Royal Navy Parachute Team.

People will be able to take selfies and photographs with the parachute team.

From 6.30pm next Sunday there will be a free summer firework party night in Vines Park, which will also feature a children’s funfair, bar, craft stalls, candy floss, slush bar, street food, live entertinment, glows, face-painting and more.

Simon Berry, from the Gardeners Arms who has organised the extravaganza, said: “We must give our special thanks to some sponsors – Droitwich Stairlifts, Back to Eden Landscapes, Lucky 7’s Tattoo, Worcester IT Services, MSVR and Droitwich Sign and Print and Dave Pyestar.”
