A TALK on the Mormons will be given by guest speaker Louise Manning at the next meeting of Salwarpe WI.
It will take place at 7.30pm on April 11 at Salwarpe Village Hall where the competition will be ‘for something yellow’.
March’s meeting featured a demonstration by master butcher Andrew Green who gave an insight into the skills of his trade.
He trained as a mechanic and then toured America, before returning to farm with his sister at Ombersley, where they rear Dexter cattle and sheep.
Andrew trained as a butcher and took over the lease of Hereford House in Droitwich before opening Knightsgrove Meats stores at Waresley Farm Shop near Hartlebury and the Jinney Ring at Hanbury.
Andrew had brought along half a pig and showed members how it was divided into the various cuts.
Members learnt some parts – such as the head and trotters – are not consumed as they once were.
Fashion changes have seen chops and steaks become more popular than joints as they cook a lot quicker.
Andrew was thanked for his interesting talk and members were able to buy some of his pork, lamb and beef.
Christine won the competition for something ‘farm related’ with a thatching comb and Judith was second with the electric fencing wire she had brought along.
