A SCHOOL in Droitwich were delighted when they were given the opportunity to bear witness to one of the world’s most famous sporting trophies.
In recognition of Westacre Middle School’s engagement with the Premier League’s physical education resources, pupils were treated to a visit from the Premier League football trophy.
450 pupils at the school caught a glimpse of the world-famous trophy after they sat down for an assembley from staff of the Premier League Primary Stars group.
Children learnt about the values of being ambitious, inspiring, connected and fair and were given tools to understand how to apply those values into their own lives.
These values are echoed in the Premier League Primary Stars’ educational resources for youngsters with a focus on engagement in sport.
There was a real buzz in the air and sense of excitement during the assembly – particularly as the children were kept in the dark about the visit right until the last minute.
Representatives of the school said the joy and surprise of the children was noticable, describing it as ‘an incredible atmosphere to experience.’
The whole event was organised by one of Westacre’s three PE subject leaders, Year 6 teacher James Treadwell. He said: “As a school, we are committed to developing and delivering engagement and participation in sport, and this reward certainly helped with that ambition and ensuring legacy, creating memories for our children which will be truly unforgettable.”
As part of the visit, all classes enjoyed the chance to have a ‘team’ photo with the trophy before a Q&A session with the Premier League visitors about the trophy, the league and football in general.
In addition, some of the Westacre classes received an extra treat, too, in the form of some brilliant PE sessions from a team of football coaches from the West Bromwich Albion Foundation.
The school’s headteacher Donna Evans added: “A huge thank you from us to the staff working on behalf of the Premier League Primary Stars, and the Premier League itself, for an unbelievable morning.
“Capturing the imagination and hearts of our school community, and really serving as an additional inspiration to the children to challenge themselves so that they can achieve their dreams.”
