Security stepped up on Berry Hill Industrial Estate after firms were targeted as thieves went on a bank holiday crime spree

SECURITY is being stepped up at several businesses on Droitwich’s Berry Hill Industrial Estate after two burglaries and several other break-ins over the bank holiday weekend.

Around 120 litres of diesel were stolen from a Mercedes truck while it was parked up at the site between 6pm last Friday (May 27) and 8.15am on Tuesday (May 31). The fuel was worth £150.

In another incident, three shipping containers were broken into and radiators, shower units, shower cubicles and other bathroom items were stolen.

There were then further attempts to steal from firms on the estate during the three-day break.

One company was targeted between midnight and 6pm on Saturday when its 6ft high chain fence was cut through.

Access was gained to the yard but nothing was taken and police think the thieves may have been disturbed.

The same company was targeted prior to the bank holiday weekend when the perimeter fence had been cut through but again nothing was taken.

And the thieves failed to gain anything from a garage on the industrial estate which was also broken into.

Following the incidents officers from Droitwich Police have stepped up patrols in the area and they have been working with business owners to give them advice about tightening up security. Action has now been taken in a bid to prevent further potential thieves gaining access to the site.

Sgt Sarah Kent of Droitwich Police said: “It was almost as if their main aim was to get as much fuel as they could but they only managed to get the diesel from one lorry.”

She confirmed all of the crimes were being linked.

Another theft was carried out in nearby De Salis Drive, Hampton Lovett.

On that occasion, between 5pm last Friday and 7.30am on Tuesday, an 8ft by 4ft sheet of aluminium worth £70 was taken.

Police believe the same people could have been involved in carrying that out.

Witnesses to the incidents or anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Any firms concerned about their security can also contact Droitwich Police for advice about protecting their premises.
