THE AMOUNTS to be given to Droitwich community groups was rubber-stamped at the latest full town council meeting on Monday.
The cash has been made available following the latest meeting of the Grants Appraisal Panel on June 12.
The Droitwich Spa and District Horticultural Society will be handed £400 to part fund the arrangements for the organisation’s annual flower show on bank holiday Monday, August 28. The show this year is the 69th successful event. The cash is to cover any incurred losses due to unavoidable circumstances, such as poor weather and reduced visitor numbers. This will also help The Horticultural Society will progress to other fund-raising activities without the sole reliance on community grants.
Droitwich Spa Youth Council will receive £750 towards the group’s first ever Youth Festival this weekend. The figure was originally £500 but extra costs have been incurred because of extra security needed in light of recent national events.
Droitwich Spa Arts Network will receive £500 towards the annual arts fest which runs from next Saturday until August 5. More than 30 different events, mostly with free admission, will take place and the themes are wide ranging to broaden interest for all ages and activities, including dance, theatre, visual arts, poetry and music.
A total of £400 will be given to Droitwich Spa Art Club which meets every Monday morning at the Community Hall. The group, the report said, has an active membership with new people of all ages consistently joining. The funds will help provide demonstrations and workshops from visiting artists.
And the Droitwich Air Cadets will receive £2,500 so it can buy a two-way radio ser of equipment, comprising hand-held receivers, a control unit and a transmitter aerial. Members commented how well the Squadron represented the town on a regular basis.
