IMPROVEMENTS totalling £600,000 will be made to a sewer system serving Cutnall Green.
As part of the plans being undertaken by Severn Trent’s contractor partner Mott McDonald Bentley, 3km of new sewers will be laid across fields and sections of the A442 near Doverdale Lane and Wassage Way.
That will mean sewage will be pumped away, rather than treated on site, which will be better for the environment and safeguard local rivers and streams from potential pollution.
With Cutnall Green becoming a sewage pumping station, the waste water will be treated at Droitwich as it is a larger high-tech site.
The extensive work will begin at the end of this month and should be completed by the winter.
For safety reasons, during two weeks in the middle of June, traffic lights will be used on Horton Lane and the A442.
Severn Trent Water’s Gareth Mead apologised to any residents who could see more traffic during that time, but he said, the development was great news for the people of Cutnall Green and would bring many benefits in the longer term.
“We’ve been working closely with the community to mimimise any disruption and the people of Cutnall Green have been very positive about the proposals.
“The sewage treatment works has been serving the community for many years – but it is in need of work.
“To make sure the quality of water in our streams and rivers get better and better, we need to continually improve and upgrade our sewers and treatment works.” he said.
