THREE out of the four areas of Droitwich Spa were above the national average for the percentage of ‘deprived households’, shocking statistics from the 2021 Census have revealed.
The census data measures four dimensions of deprivation – employment, education, health and disability and housing, which includes overcrowding, living in a shared property, or the home having no central heating.
At 59.5 per cent, Droitwich Spa West and North had the highest portion of its households classified as deprived in at least one area, 7.9 per cent higher than the England average.
Of these, 35.4 per cent of households are deprived in just one dimension and 19.2 per cent were deprived in two dimensions, whereas none were deprived in all four measured areas.
Meanwhile, 52.7 per cent of households in Droitwich Spa East were deprived in at least one dimension, while Droitwich Spa Central saw 54.9 per cent of its households classified as deprived.
In contrast, Droitwich Spa South was 9.7 per cent below the percentage of deprived households in England, with 41.9 per cent.
These included 31.7 per cent of households that were deprived in one dimension, while 8.8 per cent were deprived in two dimensions and 1.2 per cent were deprived in three.
When it comes to nationality, 90.9 per cent of people in Droitwich Spa West and North were born in the UK, while 3.9 per cent arrived in Britain between 2011 and 2021.
In addition, 2.2 per cent of people from Droitwich Spa East arrived in Britain between 2011 and 2021, and 93.5 per cent of the area were born in the UK.
Just 5.6 per cent of people in Droitwich Spa Central and 4.8 per cent of the Droitwich Spa South population were born outside the UK.
More than a third of people living in Droitwich Spa West and North, Central and South live in a two-person household – the highest percentage in this category and 40.7 per cent of people in Droitwich Spa East live on their own.
And 65.1 per cent of homes in Droitwich Spa West and North are single-family households, compared to 56 per cent in East, 63.5 per cent in Central and 74.7 per cent in South.
