THE FESTIVE relaunch of Droitwich Spa’s long-awaited High Street has been deemed a success by organisers after more than 300 people flocked to enjoy what was on offer.
Visitors took to the popular shopping street on Saturday to see the new £750,000 revamp for themselves.
There were a variety of activities and the chance to meet Santa and his reindeer.
Santa’s Post Office was opened on the morning and in the first day he received almost 100 letters in his post box.
Two of Santa’s reindeer led the procession down the High Street and will return every Thursday leading up to Christmas.
The event was organised by the Droitwich Means Business Group in conjunction with High Street traders and funding was provided by local businesses and Wychavon District Council.
Vivienne Findlay, joint chair of the Droitwich Business Group and managing director or Hotelshopuk Ltd, said: “The opening last Saturday was fantastic and lots of fun and we attracted a big crowd of visitors.
“Most importantly the High Street traders were delighted with the event and attracted lots of shoppers.
“Nelly’s Yard that opened two months ago had its best day’s trading since it opened and the Jinney Ring Pop Up Shop was so busy it had to send away for more stock.”
Rachel Harrison, owner of the beauty salon Inspire, thanked everyone who got involved.
She said: “I’m so pleased with turn out for the relaunch, more than 300 people came to take a look.
“It has been an extremely positive reaction from the public and we hope to start planning ahead for events next year.
“Hopefully we can do something every three months, we will be working as a team to make sure everyone gets something out of it.”
Late night shopping will continue every Thursday throughout December and there will be a variety of festive events in the High Street in the run up to Christmas.
