A RECORD-BREAKING 3,600 young people attended the Worcestershire Skills Shows held at Chateau Impney’s Regent Centre in Droitwich Spa.

The event saw a total of 43 schools and colleges in attendance alongside 80 county businesses.

It was hosted by the Careers and Enterprise Company, the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership and Worcestershire County Council.

The Worcestershire Skills Show gave young people the opportunity to learn more about their ideal career, through engaging and exciting activity-based stands which helped to bring the world of work to life.

A number of tech talks also took place throughout the day, with experts providing their insight and wisdom on several topics ranging from the National Careers Service to Entrepreneurship.

During the show, the Careers and Enterprise Company launched a new website and careers-focused booklet which will help to provide younger generations and their parents with all the information they need for their future working life in Worcestershire.

Gary Woodman, chief executive of the Worcestershire LEP, said: “I would like to thank all businesses that were able to attend the show and help to inspire the younger generations of the many opportunities available in Worcestershire.

“The Worcestershire Skills Show was able to focus on careers within industries that are set to grow significantly in future years, which is especially important for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

“We will continue to ensure that more of our younger generations have the relevant STEM-based skills needed to thrive in future employment.”

Coun Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member for economy and infrastructure added the show was the best yet and the figures demonstrated its popularity with young people.

“So far every year the event has been going from strength to strength and we are already looking to next year to have more businesses taking part and more opportunities for young people.”

The new Skills4Worcestershire website contains support and guidance on all academic and employment routes, as well as upcoming events.
