A HEARTWARMING campaign has been launched to encourage people across Worcestershire to organise activities to ensure the elderly are not left alone this Christmas.
The campaign is the brainchild of charity, Community Christmas and they and the charity’s official partner, Friends of the Elderly, want residents to get on board.
From festive film screenings to lunches, an abundance of activities for the elderly are already being organised by people across the UK.
The charity say there’s just one activity registered in Worcestershire and are calling out to residents to arrange more in the area.
Community Christmas receives hundreds of calls from, and on behalf of, older people facing Christmas alone.
A populated map of activities taking place on the day helps the Community Christmas team find somewhere for the elderly to spend time with others.
Caroline Billington, founder of Community Christmas said: “It’s so fantastic when we get a call from an older person and are able to find a place where they’ll be welcomed on Christmas Day – whether it’s a care home opening its doors, tea and cake in a community hall, or a trip to the local pub.”
She added, as well as having somewhere to go on Christmas Day, very often, long-lasting friendships were also formed.
