Special five-officer task force set up to target the most dangerous criminals in Droitwich

A SPECIAL police tasking team has been set up in Droitwich in a bid to target the most dangerous criminals.

Five new officers will work with the Safer Neighbourhood Team to target priority offenders and the people who cause the town the most harm.

Sgt Sarah Kent from Droitwich Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) announced the move at the town council meeting on Monday (April 24).

The officers will not be based in a specific area but will be placed where there is a problem in the town.

One of the team’s first operations was last Friday night (April 21) when officers seized 15 wraps of cocaine and £620 in cash after carrying out a search on a 42-year-old-man at the Pillar of Salt pub in Celvestune Way.

He was then arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.

PC Rich Rees, a member of SNT, said: “This arrest was made as a direct result of information received from the public.

“Information can be passed to the Police anonymously and, having this new tasking team gives us better capacity to quickly act on that information.

“There will be further operations like this in the future.”

PC Rees also appealed for everyone in Droitwich and the surrounding area to follow the Droitwich Neighbourhood Watch Facebook page.

Information can be given to police by calling crime stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or by phoning West Mercia police on tel 101.
