A SPECIAL Remembrance Service was held at Salwarpe Church this morning (Sunday) to pay respect to those who lost their lives in war and to mark a major marriage milestone.

During the early morning service, from 8.30am, Rev Laura Handy led Holy Communion followed by a wreath laying outside.

Amongst the small gathering, Rosemary and Frank Grave celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Members of the Falkland Island Association (FIA), the happy couple married at Stanley Cathedral in the Falklands on October 2, 1954.

Now with three children, nine grandchildren and soon to have a great-grandchild, Frank was a surgeon in the Navy and Rosemary was a Governor’s Secretary when they met.

Rosemary said: “It is important to remember those who died not only in the First and Second World Wars but the Falklands War as well.

“The FIA has asked members in England to broadcast the importance of the violence and the loss of life of volunteers and those in the navy.

“They want it to be remembered for its strategic importance in the naval battles.”
