Special service and silence in Droitwich town centre today to mark Armistice Day

A SHORT Act of Remembrance will be held in Droitwich from 10.50am today (Friday) to mark Armistice Day.

There will be a two-minute silence at 11am at the War Memorial in Victoria Square to mark the end of the First World War.

Then on Remembrance Sunday (November 13) there will be a special parade and service to remember those who gave their lives in the two World Wars and other conflicts.

Organisations taking part in the parade should muster at the underpass end of Ombersley Street East (and not Union Lane) from approximately 10am until 10.30am prior to moving off to Victoria Square for the Remembrance Ceremony itself.

The youth groups will report to Flt Lt Paul Wilde, the parade commander.

The civic party will meet from 10am onwards at St Richard’s House and will be processing from there to the Baptist Church, Ombersley Street, at 10.30am.

En route to Victoria Square, there will be a salute to the Mayor as the parade passes the civic party outside the Baptist Church.

People wishing to remember those servicemen and women who gave their lives in the service of their country and for our freedom should meet at the memorial by 10.45am. A two minutes’ silence will be held before Last Post is played. There will then be prayers and the laying of wreaths.

After the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial the procession passes on its way to St Andrew’s Church for the service at 11.30am.

People are also being reminded to support this year’s Droitwich Spa Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Those who wish to lay a wreath but have not yet ordered one are requested to contact Katherine by email at [email protected] or by telephoning 01905 921557.

Any individuals or other groups wanting to march in the parade or interested in joining the Droitwich Royal British Legion should email Adrian Wright at [email protected] or call Sandy Laird on 01905 773620.
