A SPECIALIST crew from Droitwich Fire Station were among emergency services teams who carried out a dramatic rescue this morning when a man fell down a well.

It happened at 8.52am at The Bank, Knighton-on-Teme, Tenbury Wells.

The man fell 10ft down the well which was only one-metre wide and had water at the bottom.

It is believed without it, the fall could have been much worse.

A specialist rope rescue crew from Droitwich and one from Malvern, along with other crews from  Tenbury Wells and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and set up an ‘A’ frame.

They then used the lines to bring the man back to the top.

The firefighters worked with their West Midlands Ambulance Service colleagues, including three paramedic officers, a BASICS doctor, the service’s Hazardous Area Response Team.

The Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham was also sent out.

The man was safely removed from the well at 11.28am and, after receiving treatment from ambulance staff for serious injuries, he was taken to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
