Spring Meadows and Copcut Park set for biodiversity revamp

Droitwich Editorial 13th Mar, 2024   0

A PROJECT to enhance wildlife at two popular Droitwich parks is in the works thanks to collaboration from the town council and Natural Networks.

Spring Meadow and Copcut Park are set to be improved to provide for new wildlife and create an enjoyable space for visitors.

The plans were discussed by Droitwich Spa Town Council’s chairman of the community and amenities committee, Councillor Christine Bowden, at a public meeting for residents on Monday, March 11.

Natural Networks is a programme run by Worcestershire County Council and Worcestershire Wildlife Trust offering biodiversity surveys to assess project sites and make recommendations on maximising habitats.

Grant funding can also be provided to help deliver wildlife projects following identifications for improvements.

Following the collaboration, dead trees are due to be replaced at Spring Meadow alongside the sowing of a wildflower meadow to create further habitats and boost floral diversity.

Flower displays will be added at the entrances to the site, along with the installation of an insect hotel.

At Copcut Park, the project plans to redirect and lay a new, more permeable path to reduce flooding and create a safer more accessible route for visitors.

Plans are also in place to plant spring bulbs within the woodlands and amenity grassland areas to again boost floral diversity. An insect hotel will be installed here also, along with bird and bat boxes.

Coun Bowden thanked fellow councillors, Coun Richard Morris, Coun Peter Clements, Coun Dave Davidson and Coun Sue Brazier for their help in the working group of this ‘exciting project’.
