St Richard's Canal Festival kicks off this May bank holiday weekend

DROITWICH’S locks are open ready for the arrival of this years St Richard’s Canal Festival over the May bank holiday weekend.

The free festival in Vines Park, Droitwich Spa kicks off next Friday (May 3) from 5pm to 11pm and will continue over the weekend from 10am to 11pm on Saturday and Sunday (May 4 and 5).

Festivities will continue into bank holiday Monday (May 6) from 10am to 5pm with The ‘Great Droitwich Duck Race’ closing out the weekend from 4.30pm.

Friday’s entertainment kicks off with live music from Kaiju Blue from 7pm before Jack Read and the Shaders take the stage at 9pm.

Saturdays entertainment begins with a well-blessing ceremony with Rev Laura Handy at 11am ahead of a performance from Mel and Him at 12 noon.

Droitwich Community Choir take to the stage later on with a 1.45pm performance followed by Kingswinford Concert Band from 3pm. The Transporters will bring attendees into the evening from 5pm.




As the sun goes down visitors will see a live performance from 5-piece Cheltenham-based Tracer Band at 7pm before visitors can party out the night with the Reflections from 9pm.

Boat trips on barge ‘Pamela May’ will give people a chance to travel down Droitwich Spa’s beautiful canals between 10am and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.


Sunday’s entertainment starts earlier with a 10.30am service with the Salvation Army followed by Tukay and Ryan from 12pm. The I Sing Choir will be performing from 2pm ahead of the Alvechurch Choir from 3.30pm.

Taking to the stage late on Saturday afternoon will be The Dreamsetters Duo from 4.30pm before you can Ska ‘n’ Reggae the night away with SKA BUCKS from 9pm.

Visitors can wag their tales at the dog show from 11am Monday morning following shortly after by the Got2Sing Choir performing from 11.30am

Blackwell Concert Band will fill the air with music from 1pm followed by the Debbie Parry Band performing from 3pm.

The bank holiday weekend will close out with The Great Droitwich Duck Race from 4.30pm on Vines Park River.

Local traders will be up bright and early on Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning to set up arts and crafts stalls selling good from 10am to 5pm.

Food and drink will be available all weekend with this years real ale and cider bar stocked with 20 different beers and 15 different ciders.
