STAFF from two Droitwich projects are celebrating after being given more than £19,000 in grants from The Big Lottery Fund.

The Droitwich Spa and Rural Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) was awarded £9,290 for their The Work Works project and The Friends of Himbleton School, a consortium of parents governors and staff from Himbleton C E First School, were handed £10,000 for the Babysurfers to Silversurfers Club.

The CVS will use its cash boost to further their work with young people between 16 and 18-years-old by enabling them to visit employers and get more information about jobs and careers paths.

Pauline Yardley, head of community learning centre, said: “We are very pleased we can now announce this programme and are already talking to employers and partners to build the opportunities and make it available to as many young people as possible from across the county.”

The Friends of Himbleton School’s scheme is designed to give back to the community and offer ICT training and guidance to using the worldwide web and new technology.

Chairwoman Natalie Fletcher said: “We are absolutely thrilled at winning our bid and being awarded £10,000.

“With the school having the benefit of Broadband Internet technology and Wi-Fi throughout, the funding will allow resources to be bought to enable members of the community, from a full range of ages, to come together and develop their IT skills, especially in tablet computer technology.”
