Star Project - with sessions in Droitwich - looking forward to meeting face-to-face

A THEATRE company is looking forward to reopening its doors and meeting up in person after a year of getting together virtually.

The Star Project moved its classes online when the pandemic hit last March, holding sessions via Zoom.

The team – which has been teaching dance, drama and singing to children and young people, aged four to 18, for the past 14 years – was not going to let the Covid crisis extinguish the stage lights.

In the last 12 months it has produced the virtual musical ‘Lockdown Lane’ with www.zoomsical.co.uk and the ‘Stars on Broadway’ virtual movie screened on YouTube.

The Star Project’s director Jo Payne said she was ‘over the moon’ so many students had stuck with it.

“The love, care and support our Star Project community has given to us and each other has been overwhelming and really quite beautiful.

“It has been such a challenging year for our young people and seeing them virtually each week in class still enjoying the arts has kept our whole team in high spirits.

“It has without a doubt made us stronger and closer and we are so proud of the children.”

The Star Project begins its reopening with a week-long Legally Blonde Easter performing arts camp from April 12 to 16 at Barnt Green Parish Centre – the first opportunity the children have had to rehearse together in some time.

From April 19, weekly sessions will resume in Barnt Green, Cofton Hackett and Droitwich.

Children aged four to eight will explore Finding Nemo The Musical and for those aged nine to 18, Newsies The Musical.

The Star Project will operate in smaller bubbles with extra Covid-safe measures in place and it is hoped the summer performances will be on a real stage with an audience
