A LARGE jar of pickled onions has helped raise £1,000 for Bromsgrove’s Primrose Hospice following events at the Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club.
The fund-raising campaign began in October with an event which saw £355 generated.
Stoke Prior resident Alan Wardle, known locally as ‘Flash’ made his annual donation of a large jar of pickled onions and raffle tickets for the tangy prize were sold at a number of events throughout the winter months.
The campaign culminated with a charity night at Stoke Prior Club on February 11, organised by ‘Flash’.
Tribute band 27 Party took centre stage, performing 1980s and 90s classics and entertaining the audience.
The final push was the fund-raising raffle and tickets for the jar of pickled onions, which was won by Maxine McGuinness.
A total of £259 was raised from the onions raffle with a further £210 raised from the general prize draw.
This was added to the £335 raised last October and a private donation of £196 rounded the amount up to £1,000 for the cause.
Mark Goddard, manager at Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club, said: “Our customers have been really supportive of our fund-raising, and our events and raffles are a fun way to help others in the community.
“The Primrose Hospice is such an important charity locally and we are proud to be able to help support the work they do.”
