A FUN swashbuckling day was had by all at Himbleton C of E First School when a pirate day was held to raise funds for the Paddle For Jack campaign.

Crowle canoeist Steve Boaz has paddled along the whole 220 miles of the River Severn ‘from source to sea’ in memory of his son three-year-old Jack who passed away in September from a rare form of leukaemia.

Staff and pupils wanted to do something for the cause so held the day to coincide with the Worcester stretch of Steve’s journey where he himself dressed like a pirate.

The school raised more than £320 for the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and Birmingham Children’s Hospital through the day which featured a variety of activities, including pirate games, cakes and a party.

Sara Hedges, the Key Stage 2 class teacher at Himbleton, said: “The children loved the day – they all thought it was amazing and we’ve raised a great sum for two really good causes.

“It was a really nice community event.”
